HI Guys, I have increased some Main Course prices- some are the same. For the updated amounts, please visit the website. Treats will go up in September. New prices come into effect Monday - so if you get your orders in early... I will honour the old prices : my pleasure.
This is such a month for news as we hibernated through June...As most of you know, Esteban's father is in Montreal, and he has a short time off his studies in August so, in the interest of family unity - we are making a dash visit to Montreal (thanks baby bonus still saved!).
To do this, I'll need to do a couple of double runs. For those that can't take the extra food (like you Maggie and maybe Spike) you will be able to pick up form Butch Foods as the cafe will remain open for business and Sassy pickups. I will pre pack your order though, as I don't want Adam to have issues getting your things when you pick up. I will be doing the Mosman run the Friday the day after I get back. Bear with me if I'm exhausted and Esteban out of sorts-
I've never travelled with an almost 1 year old before- if you have tips: I'd love them.
I will let you all know exactly when your double deliveries are so don't freak out or try and figure it out- I will give you plenty of time to get your orders in. Double deliveries will start with the Pacific Hwy run in a month... then Palm Beach.. etc. Again don't keep track- I will
Winter grasses are going to drive some of your puppies mad!!!
TIP: leave a bowl of water (or a spray bottle) and an old towel/ tea towel by the front and back door. When you come in from your daily walk or two, wipe paws down with the water and tea towel before coming into the house to take seeds and pollens off

Now for those who decided to spend their birthdays quietly...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Missy (6 yrs) and Buster Brundell (2yrs), Jedda (14 this year!) and Russ Monroe Petersen.
Well: Ziggy is back! Nice to see you mate! And Heather Robertson and her elderly Afghans are enjoying Sassy Treats beautiful treats as they are soft and easy to eat. Not to mention delicious.
Also Hello to Chopper Culley.
G’day to Mia Geier who we met at the Million Paws walk in May (what a day!)so glad the Main Courses are being enjoyed.
Also great to have is Teddy Brown. Poor Teddy is only one year old miniature poodle who came to us through a Sydney Uni vet. Teddy had been throwing up everything, and finally was pointed towards us. I am pleased to say, Teddy is stuffing his face now, slowly putting on weight- with no vomit in sight: YAY!!!!
And a HUGE hello to my mum’s new dog Lucy. Lucy was rescued from a very strange family situation in Potts Point. Now, not terrified to be approached and always willing to greet you with a smile, this little Maltese has a heart of gold. Poor Esteban has a wear mark where Lucy just keeps licking!
And as I write this: Mimi Hewett has joined our fold (we hope!). she a fussy little Pomeranian so I hope we can please her little tummy.
And now for the hard ones...
Eddy Coleman
Eddy came to Kath as a rescue staffy puppy full of life only a short time ago. It was Kath’s first dog. She got him at Christmas. Eddy was always so excited to see you. If it were me: he’d just jump and jump and smile and pant and get really, really excited. Kath began to think maybe the excited stated wasn’t so normal, so she invested in a good behaviour trainer. After working with Eddy for a while, something didn’t add up. After an MRI, Eddy was found to have a brain tumour and his “happy” mood was really the effect of this growing tumour. How devastated Kath must have been- I can only imagine how she must have felt, knowing Eddy will never grow old with her, his days were numbered. So we baked him a cake, and we gave him puppy lattes and Kath loved Eddy till the day he had to leave this mortal place. Kath, I wish you all the light and warmth of the sun to get you through this time.
Jasper Stewart
Jasper first came to me straight out of quarantine with fellow cat Big Bubba and dog mate Mojo.
Jasper’s mum googled us. Jasper already had a kidney disease condition, and after hearing of our success with the dogs, Jasper’s guardian put Jasper on our kidney diet- that was in April last year. Unfortunately, Jasper died last Thursday, 14 and half years old. I wish Big Bubba, Mojo and Kerrie all the strength they will need to get up, and get on with living.
Jasper R.I.P
Gidget and Gacy Green
A mother and Daughter team to the end. Gidget and Gacy came to me as one of my first clients in 2003. The dogs were already a mature 8 and 7 respectively, and Stephen, their guardian was looking for fresh healthy food. Gadget and Gacy were inseparable schnauzers. Gidget passed away in Late April, and it appears Gacy didn’t want to go on without her mother Gidget, as she passed away 3 weeks later. To lose two old friends in a matter of weeks is an ordeal many of us will never had to experience.
Smudge Callaghan
I wanted to lead with this news of course, but felt my grief was no more than any of my clients’ guardians above.
It is different however as Smudge was my muse, and without her- I would never have known my clients...
As many of you already knew, Smudge had been diagnosed 18 months ago with a very aggressive cancer and was only supposed to be with me for a maximum of 3 more months.
I did much off my grieving back then- or so I thought.
I had just found out I was pregnant with Esteban and was inconsolable that my old friend would never meet my baby. So aren’t I the luckiest girl in the world.
Smudge and I were united from when she was just 5 weeks old and her mother decided she could fend for herself. We spent most of her first years chilling in parks during the day and working nights. From the very beginning she was a really special little dog. No barking, live and let live life attitude and an innate predisposition to please and hang out with me. By the time Smudge was 5 though, she had started to scratch almost constantly. I think she thought her name was Smudgestopscratching. We had tried everything from steroids to allergen injections all of which cost thousands of dollars for no real effect. Then I started to read the back of pet food packets and realised what the problem really was.
In 2000 Sassy Treats was born.
Smudge moved out from under my bed, and instead of growling at active children, she embraced their naive ways. All her hair grew back and to the day she died, she had all her teeth.
I guess the rest is history.
I’m not going to go on about how it is here at home now...if you haven’t been here before- you’re an animal guardian and will be here in the future. Suffice to say, Dude refuses to leave me alone in case i don’t come back either like her mate Smudge, Esteban is now sleeping all night: i never realised how noisy Smudge was...but the house is very quiet now at night.
To know that for years to come, her impact on my life, and that of so many other people and pets will be felt and seen through silky coats ,wet noses and shiny eyes is the only silver lining in the cloud right now....
Smiles, Giggles, Purrs and head butts,
